The Room of Light
Quarto da Luz means the Room of Light. It was built with great care by our friends at Karuna Retreat Center, in the mountains above the village of Monchique, the green corner of the Algarve.
The walls are made of earth, polished by hand. Inside there is a quiet space to sit and rest, blankets, a bathroom with a shower, fresh air through a ventilation system, and a small hatch through which food arrives without any light entering.
And then there is the darkness: complete, gentle, and very still.

Group silent meditation retreats
At Cave of the Heart, we guide Hridaya silent meditation retreats, most of them at Karuna Retreat Center. Three, five or ten days of meditation, Hatha Yoga and Silence, in a group lovingly held.
A group retreat can also be a beautiful doorway into the dark. When the mind is already quiet, entering Quarto da Luz right after a retreat allows that Silence to continue and deepen.
